TXDOT Median Proposal for Hwy 71

At the May 13 meeting, the Bee Cave City Council unanimously approved a resolution in support of TXDOT’s amended Highway 71 Median Plan.

Under this proposal, raised medians will be installed between Hamilton Pool Road and Bee Creek Road.

Under this plan, medians will not be installed between Hamilton Pool Road and Uplands Ridge until this eastern section of Hwy 71 can be widened to accommodate increased traffic. The current traffic counts are too high to restrict movement with medians on the eastern side of Hwy 71 according to city officials.

Medians reduce conflict points between vehicles by restricting where drivers can make left turns. Local residents, law enforcement and city officials raised concerns that these medians would increase traffic along the already congested section of Hwy 71 between Hamilton Pool Road and Uplands Ridge.

Construction on the medians on the western side of Hwy 71 between Hamilton Pool Road and Bee Creek Road is expected to begin in the fall of 2025 and take 10-12 months to complete.
